Ascent
Description
Play as a nameless adventurer who wants to climb a tower. On your journey, the player will interact with characters that have something to say about the tower and what lies beyond it. However, as you ascend, you may realize that going up isn't always a good thing, as metaphors usually describe.

Game Gam Theme
The way I attempted to make this game relate to texture is through the music and the visuals. For the music, I made the theme change depending on the vibe of the area. The main music is supposed to feel adventurous but also have something feel off. In one area, I do not have music at all, which adds to the eeriness of the room because the player is supposed to realize that the character they are playing is not normal. During the boss, I change the theme to make the player's ears hurt as they are about to kill something, then afterwards, a more sad theme plays to emphasize that you did something wrong. Also, the colour changes during and after you kill to show that you are not the same afterwards.

This was actually pretty amusing, good job! The game is generally fun though would have liked to see a bit more variety, kind of like the boss fight level. Functionally it is good though that last part was weird as you were flying up into the air and going around to get to the red door. Creativity wise, this might be the first side scroller - so I'm loving that aspect. Though again, would have liked to see more conundrums and variety of confrontations. Theme wise, the game itself doesn't seem to discuss texture, but it displays it. However, not all sources of texture are used in this game - missing are sound effects and text(+ text effects). But I did enjoy the tower climbing aspect.

It was a really interesting idea to make this game a side-scroller, since Bitsy isn't really built for that. I thought that you did a good job with that. I thought that the visuals were well done too. I thought that you made the game surprisingly immersive for a Bitsy game.

The visuals are crazy good. And there are quite a few concerningly funny jokes, which definitely added to the fun. Overall, very satisfactory, especially with the help of music. But I will say that I'm slightly confused, even after playing it twice. Maybe I'm skipping something or not reading deeply enough, but I completely missed the meaning/ending.
Only one negative: wanted to climb tree, can't climb tree :c

Really well done. The visuals go far beyond your first game jam submission; the colour palettes used work really well and you do a great job conveying a lot with little. Like Seth said, I was not expecting a 2D side-scroller, but I appreciated it and I think you did a great job. The boss fight was really cool; it would be nice to see more done with it (and I can think of a number of ways to do this), but it was very cool regardless, and any further implementation would take a lot of work. Overall, really well done.

I really liked this game. Doing a side world perspective really gives it an original and refreshing touch to the games we have seen so far. I really liked the art style. In the sword scene, I liked how the developer explored about 3 different environments that changed. My only "critique" is that I didn't really understand the ending. But overall, I liked the game.

Phenomenal use of bitsy. I can in terms of visuals this one is leagues beyond the game from the first jam. I love that you used bitsy as a 2d sidescroller rather than a top down engine, that was really creative. I also didn't expect a boss fight but the introduction of it was handled very well and was quite intriguing. I didn't quite understand the story but it definitly kept me interested and curious as I played. All around solid showing here.
